Our support and impact through the years.
S.O.F.E.A. is a community oriented not-for-profit association. We respond to the needs of our community and raise money as needs arise. In the past, this has meant helping grieving community members, creating bridges for newcomer teachers from the Philippines and from other counties, awarding student scholarships, etc.
Celebrating Annually the Philippine Heritage and Independence Day
A community effort to celebrate and highlight Philippine excellence in the Seven Oaks School Division and beyond. S.O.F.E.A., Inc. has partnered with Maples Collegiate and Seven Oaks School Division to host the celebration since June 2013 to present.
Responding to Natural Disaster Fundraisers
Fundraised in 2022 to support families that were affected by natural disasters in the Philippines like during Taal Volcano eruption.
Filipino Bilingual Program
*Lobbying and advocating for the implementation of the first Filipino Bilingual Program in Canada for the early grades. Eventually, for K-12 grade level in the Seven Oaks School Division and beyond. The program has started from K-3 during school year 2018-2019 at A.E. Wright Community School. Since then, it has grown to K- 8 since school year 2023-2024. *Ongoing promotion of the program to the local and global communities.
Supporting Internationally Educated Teachers
Conducting a free professional development training called, “Teachers’ Panel” for internationally-educated teachers and educational assistants from the Philippines, India, Nigeria, Trinidad, Russia, and other source countries.
Offering mentorship to aspiring/new teachers and educational assistants.
School Fundraiser and collection drive for students in need in the Philippines.
Doing its annual summer school-supply drive since 2013 to present in support of public elementary school students from Catigbian, Bohol and Santa Rosa, Binan, Laguna, and Alfonso, Cavite, Philippines.
Supporting working mothers
Supported for a couple of years the marginalized women in collaboration with Saint Michael’s College of Laguna’s Lingap Centre, Binan, Laguna, Philippines by purchasing from them hand- made key chains and purses that the association has sold during its Independence Day celebration. The money earned was used to gather funds for its annual school-supply drive.
